What is IP Consulting?   IP Consulting is an loose association of experienced professional engineers and technical specialists who provide expert witness and consulting services in patent law litigation, intellectual property disputes, technical work-for-hire disputes, and other IP-rights related cases.
Who is your principal consultant?   Our principal consultant is Kurt W.G. Matthies. Kurt is a 25 veteran of the computer software industry. An electronics engineer by training, Kurt spent the first part of his career as a Unix system software programmer and designer. During this period, he analyzed the major differences between the two major Unix versions of the time, Berkeley Unix, developed at the University of California, Berkeley, and Bell Labs Unix, and developed an encyclopedic knowledge of the two systems. Through his writings, he attracted the attention of a major Unix vendor of the time, Convergent Technologies, and he developed and taught a series of classroom courses on Unix usage, system administration, programming, system internals. Through his teaching and writing in industry journals, he became known as an expert in his field. Much of Kurt's technical career has followed this pattern...developing an interest, pursuing the interest, mastering the technical material, and gaining notariety as an effective communicator of these complex technical ideas recently mastered, either through teaching and/or writing. He has served as Contributing Editor for Ziff Davis publications like MacUser, and is published by Microsoft Press. Kurt's 25 years of experience as a designer, implementation specialist, manager, lecturer, teacher and writer has won many accolades, including multiple Distinguished and Excellence awards from the Society of Technical Communications, where he is a Senior Member.

What are the strengths of IP Consulting?   While technical talent may be easier to find today than in the past for a variety of reasons, the principals and consultants of IP Consulting specialize in communicating complex technical ideas in using language and symbols understandable to a lay person.
What are your recent projects?   In an ongoing case, we have worked throughout 2003 and for the first half of 2004 with our client's attorneys toward documenting evidence of patent infringement in the products of the leading software vendors in a specific technology service area. As a result of our analyses, all of these companies chose to license our client's innovative technology for their products, saving the expense of court, while at the same time, earning for our client, the fair and equitable licensing fees their intellectual property deserves.
